Lesson 1 - Getting Started

Simple Finger Picking

This lesson demonstrates how the fingers (of the picking hand) work the appropriate strings. The Thumb plays the bass strings (E, A, D). Your index finger plays the G string. Your middle finger plays the B string. For this exercise you do NOT use the 3rd finger on the E string; however this may be used in more advanded exercises.

NOTES

It is generally helpful to actually finger the entire chord, even though the tab does not show this. Fingering the whole chord will give you opportunities to add variations as you become more familiar with the techniques.

You may also ocassionally not play the final note before changing chords. This gives you the opportunity to make a clean chord change without having to hurry the change as much.
